Striking property of the gravitational Hamiltonian.

چکیده
A Hamiltonian framework for 2+1 dimensional gravity coupled with matter (satisfying positive energy conditions) is considered in the asymptotically flat context. It is shown that the total energy of the system is non-negative, vanishing if and only if space-time is (globally) Minkowskian. Furthermore, contrary to one’s experience with usual field theories, the Hamiltonian is bounded from above. This is a genuinely non-perturbative result. In the presence of a space-like Killing field, 3+1 dimensional vacuum general relativity is equivalent to 2+1 dimensional general relativity coupled to certain matter fields. Therefore, our expression provides, in particular, a formula for energy per-unit length (along the symmetry direction) of gravitational waves with a space-like symmetry in 3+1 dimensions. A special case is that of cylindrical waves which have two hypersurface orthogonal, space-like Killing fields. In this case, our expression is related to the “c-energy” in a non-polynomial fashion. While in the weak field limit, the two agree, in the strong field regime they differ significantly. By construction, our expression yields the generator of the time-translation in the full theory, and therefore represents the physical energy in the gravitational field. 1

متن کاملAn extended complete Chebyshev system of 3 Abelian integrals related to a non-algebraic Hamiltonian system
In this paper, we study the Chebyshev property of the 3-dimentional vector space $E =langle I_0, I_1, I_2rangle$, where $I_k(h)=int_{H=h}x^ky,dx$ and $H(x,y)=frac{1}{2}y^2+frac{1}{2}(e^{-2x}+1)-e^{-x}$ is a non-algebraic Hamiltonian function. Our main result asserts that $E$ is an extended complete Chebyshev space for $hin(0,frac{1}{2})$. To this end, we use the criterion and tools developed by...
متن کاملSymplectic and symmetric methods for the numerical solution of some mathematical models of celestial objects
In the last years, the theory of numerical methods for system of non-stiff and stiff ordinary differential equations has reached a certain maturity. So, there are many excellent codes which are based on Runge–Kutta methods, linear multistep methods, Obreshkov methods, hybrid methods or general linear methods. Although these methods have good accuracy and desirable stability properties such as A...
متن کاملGauge fields and Sternberg-Weinstein approximation of Poisson manifolds
The motion of a classical particle in a gravitational and a Yang-Mills field was described by S. Sternberg and A. Weinstein by a particular Hamiltonian system on a Poisson manifold known under the name of Sternberg-Weinstein phase space. This system leads to the generalization of the Lorentz equation of motion first discovered by Wong. The aim of this work is to show that inversely, a Hamiltoni...
متن کاملRay-tracing and Interferometry in Schwarzschild Geometry
Here, we investigate the possible optical anisotropy of vacuum due to gravitational field. In doing this, we provide sufficient evidence from direct coordinate integration of the null-geodesic equations obtained from the Lagrangian method, as well as ray-tracing equations obtained from the Plebanski’s equivalent medium theory. All calculations are done for the Schwarzschild geometry, which resu...
